
Thomas Fernandez is the Chairman and CEO of PestBusters Pte Ltd. A true-blue market dominator, Thomas led PestBusters to dominate 95 percent of the highly competitive high-end market of the pest control industry. In the process he literally revolutionised the industry by introducing a Pest Management System that became the standard and benchmark industry players follow. PestBusters is now one of Singapore’s largest and most successful pest control companies. It is also recognised as the market leader in pest management service.
His high-profile clients include the Who’s Who of the hospitality and healthcare industry. Some of them include the Four Seasons Hotel, Grand Hyatt, Hilton, Meritus Mandarin, The Oriental, Raffles Hotel, The Fullerton, Shangri-La Group, Alexandra Hospital, Changi General Hospital, KK Women’s & Children’s Hospital, The National University Hospital and many others. Many well-known commercial buildings are also serviced by his company. His clients typically stay with him for years, some as long as over 20 years!
He has also successfully expanded and captured the competitive markets of Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia and Thailand, with plans to spread his reach to Indonesia and the Philippines. Trained in the United States in pest management, Thomas leverages on his expertise and experience to innovate and push the professional boundaries of the industry. He chaired the 1st and 2nd International Pest Control Convention in Singapore (1997 & 2000), which drew attendees from over 34 countries. He also steered PestBusters to become the first pest control company in Singapore to establish its own research and development facility supported by A*Star (a government organisation dedicated to charting the course for Singapore’s Science and Technology sector).
His accomplishments extend beyond his specialised industry. A consummate entrepreneur, Thomas believes in sharing his knowledge to help develop and cultivate entrepreneurs. He is a serial entrepreneur who is involved in successful businesses in other industries, such as premier nightspots Thumper and Timbre @ The Arts House (previously known as Q Bar). He has also mentored entrepreneurs including the owners of bridal boutique, Silhouette, and solar film company, Cool N Lite—where he remains as one of its shareholders. Thomas is a regular speaker at educational and professional institutions, where he shares on entrepreneurship and business strategies. He has received accolades and awards from the business community and the Singaporean government in recognition of his entrepreneurship contribution.
Within just 10 years, he led his company to achieve the status of a PSME (Promising Small and Medium Enterprise), awarded by the Singapore Productivity and Standards Board (PSB). PestBusters is also the first home-grown pest management company to have received the ISO9002 quality assurance award. Thomas’ inspirational leadership also garnered PestBusters the National Training Award (2000) and the prestigious Singapore Promising Brand Award (2002).
On a personal level, Thomas was recognised as a Top 10 Entrepreneur of the Year (2001) and awarded the Spirit of Enterprise Award (2004). Passionate about spearheading entrepreneurship in Singapore, Thomas contributes his time to various organisations that champion this cause. He holds a council position in the Association of Small and Medium Enterprise (ASME), where he is part of its EYA Committee that interviews and selects candidates for its annual Entrepreneur of the Year Award. As a highly respected businessman, Thomas is on the SMBNET Advisory Board and used to sit on board the Technical Committee of PSB, Singapore. He is also the Chapter President of the Entrepreneur Organisation (EO)—formerly known as the Young Entrepreneur Organisation (YEO)—for 2006 and 2007, and a member of the Pi Chi Omega Professional Fraternity—a by-invitation only United States-based fraternity for pest control professionals.
